Body found in search for missing nurse Victoria Taylor

Police looking for missing woman Victoria Taylor have found a body close to where she was last seen three weeks ago.

The 34-year-old nurse was last seen on 30 September after she left her home in Malton, North Yorkshire.

North Yorkshire Police Assistant Chief Constable Wayne Fox said underwater search teams had now found a body in the River Derwent.

He said on Tuesday that it was located close to where a number of Ms Taylor's personal possessions had been found.

Formal identification is yet to take place, but Ms Taylor's family have been informed.

"While today's outcome is not what anybody would wish for, Victoria's family have again asked me to express their thanks to all of those who've supported North Yorkshire Police and other emergency services in our efforts to locate Victoria," Assistant Chief Constable Fox said.

He said Ms Taylor's family have felt an "enormous amount of heartache" since her disappearance, adding that they are grateful to the local community for the "overwhelming level of support that they have had as a family".

Ms Taylor was captured on CCTV walking towards a play park near the water's edge on the day she disappeared - and earlier that morning at a BP garage, where she bought several items.

She was reported missing on 1 October.

Police had previously said there was a "significant possibility" that Ms Taylor had entered the river.

Police drones, divers and specialist sonar equipment were used in the extensive search for the nurse.
